It has similarities with the 1966 EA142, partly the work of Pininfarina.

One of the later (I believe seven were produced) EA 53 (EA 53/1 - EA 53/7) prototypes produced by Ghia, from about 1961?

Yes, it is a VW EA53 from 1962.
