I have a name, a year and displacement...that's all.
1 point if you know.
(I left all the clues that you can find in that pic ;) )

That's about the ugliest homebuilt racer I've ever seen, like a shrunken Swandean Special. Still, the important thing is that the builder and/or driver enjoyed themselves.

Very high seating position, suggesting that it's based on a production car. Assuming it's in the same class as the Lotus Mk9, I'm guessing it might be MG-based. Is it?

(Sorry, I just reread your OP, and you probably don't know. Is it 1250cc ?)

It's probably a Coventry-Climax or a Fiat engine. The best way to find out who the driver is, is to establish nationality. I take it this is the UK ?

This car was for sale in Italy not long ago.
It's green and it was advertised as a Sport 1100.
I have a name and a year (plus a telephone number and a price but it's not relevant  ;D).

It's probably not from the UK then!

I must admit I was starting to think the photo was taken at the Hunzerug corner at Zandvoort. I had found details of a race which had a Lotus in it, and there was a Porsche-engined special in the same race called a Koopmicron. Those wheels look familiar too. Does this mean anything to you - Porsche 1100 engine, and Koopmicron of P J Mikkers?

(Wild guessing now - not a good sign)

I've returned to thinking the car is British - but why would a green-painted British homebuilt sports-racing car finish up for sale in Italy? Very odd.

Is the name Riley?

A British 1100 - could it be a Singer?

To sum up what I know:
this car was for sale, there was an ad in an Italian magazine and it was called simply J****** 1100 Sport 1955.

You mentioned in an earlier post that you had 2 US and 1 UK makers under that name, but I've just gone through the letter J in Georgano and found nothing.  :'(

Staying with the letter J (just like Sesame Street), how about Jenkins?

 :applause: :applause: :applause:

About my clue:

Jenkins Automobile Company, Washington D.C.
Jenkins Motor Car Company, Rochester, New York
P.W. Jenkins, Ponders End, Middlesex then Enfield, Middlesex

2 of them are in Georgano's  ;)

That is all I have about...

At Pro level much of my posting is guesswork! Thanks for the clues.

I suppose the only person who could tell us more about the engine would be the vendor or purchaser. It's a British special built in 1955 with an 1100cc engine - wow, that's unusual!

Looking at Martin Krejki's site, and the Jenkins doesn't get a mention.  There quite a few cars with 1100cc Climax engines in 1955 but they were serious cars like Cooper, Elva and Lotus, not any that look as amateur as this one.    The only other 1100 engines I can think of are Riley 9, MG PA and Singer which were essentially prewar.  Could it be a mis-captioned 1172 Formula car?

I assume that your puzzle photo came from that ad. It would be good to know where the car was pictured but that looks difficult to pinpoint.

I am working on the principle that the car was built and raced in the UK - I have a fairly extensive collection of race programmes for UK events in the 1950s, but I've had a look and there's nothing under that name. I reckon it was used in smaller club meetings only.
