The article I pulled that from was from 1902. It was close to 1903, but I though it might not be the right guy. Three different publications had the same story; none included his first name. Maybe I'll look some more over the weekend.

Thanks for giving me a second go at it.  :)

8606, please.
8606:KOEHLER

After selling several models of automobiles in their stores since the turn of the century, the Koehler Sporting Goods Company in New York City decided in 1910 to build a better model car than what they were selling. They started building both cars and trucks under the name of Koehler. The Koehler automobile was a 40-horsepower, four-cylinder touring model on a 112-inch wheelbase. In 1913, the company dropped the automobile in favor of producing only trucks. They were made until 1923.
Perfect!

Difficult to find as search engines are full of VW's

Is it a renamed Briggs and Stratton Flyer, an electric buggy for kids from the early 20th century?

Not that. It predates VW and Briggs & Stratton.

Is this perhaps Volkswagen subsidiary, Bugatti SAS of Molsheim, producers of the Veyron since 1999 and Galibier since 2009?

Bugatt--Gulinelli from 1901-1903?

Right or wrong, can I try 9301 next please.

incidentally, is your database strictly makes and not models e.g Would a Ford Prefect appear under "Ford UK" and a Lincoln-Mercury Comet appear under "Lincoln Mercury" although both Lincoln and Mercury are/were Ford owned brands

If I understood your question, I have the 'Perfect' model under 'Ford UK' maker, and 'Comet' under 'Mercury (xx)'.
In the notes about 'Ford UK' and 'Mercury' I put the ownership of those brands.
About Bugatti, would you like to reconsider your guess according to that (and to the previous answers you can find on pag.1)?

The question was more for general clarification rather than related to this one.  Clearly "Bugatti-Gulinelli" will be a different make from "Bugatti" so my guess is wrong.

Can I move on to try 9301 please?

Sure...
We already had Bugatti (1),the famous one, and (2), the british replica.
Bugatti (3), in my index, is the Italian venture (Bugatti Automobili SpA, Campogalliano, Modena) the unfortunate one that produced the EB110 in its various versions and prototypes.

Might that be the Lycoming engined cars made by the Piedmont Motor Company of Lynchburg, Virginia in 1920-21 for The Lone Star Truck and Tractor Corp, San Antonio, Texas who sold them as "Lone Star"?

Right or wrong can I try 9352 next please?

Not that.

Is it your answer to my last message ? If so, I'll try the Sammio Ribble Pilot Spyder (1966), a replica of the Lancia D24 Le Mans based on a Triumph Herald 1200.
