The Forest Automobile should be related with Forest Motor Co. Boston, Mass. 1905.
As you well know I was searching for something from Detroit more than from Boston, because I think this is the only way to reach Gerd!
He tried 29 numbers, you 10!
Your 2 games can be compared only after the same number of attempts.
Once someone reaches 1000 he is not automatically the winner.
If he stops there with, let's say, 1000 points after 50 numbers, he will be the winner ONLY if, in the meantime, ALL the other active players (that will keep on playing) will not reach 1000 (or more) with less attempts!

...and you can always hit a top maker out of luck! Remember that my index is not the bible and they are the top makers in my archive, not in the real world...just for example I use to list some makers by chassis, one by one and others just briefly...
(I know it's odd, but it's the only way to have a fair game...)
About your guess, it's not that Forest...
