This one is for the racing fans. Date and place please - remember, searching by image is against the rules and an insult to genuine AP members.

Let's eliminate the obvious - it isn't Brooklands is it?

You're right - it isn't Brooklands! I'd better stop eliminating countries, or you'll get there too fast.

 I've just realised - it's sand not wet concrete!

Southport Sands ?  Maybe 1925

You've made the breakthrough. But it isn't Southport, I'm afraid. It's rather obscure.

Is Magilligan Strand, County Down, Northern Ireland suitably obscure?

It's not there, but you are so much closer geographically.

I believe its a photo taken in September 1929 of the Inaugural Automobile Race on the beach at Tramore Co. Waterford  , Ireland.

Very distinctive church tower that.

:hyper: How the h*** did you get that? AND an up=to=date photo of the town! I thought this puzzle would make it all the way to the Pros. A very well-earned point for the Canuck.

I found the photo on a website for the County and its tourist attractions, purely by accident. I had no idea anyone would solve it.

When I first saw your photo I thought how the hell is anybody going to solve that, but I was trying to identify the cars at that point which was hard as they are so small.

Looking at the venue, it looked like a horse racing track (to me) so I started to find out about automobile racing on horse tracks in England (then Ireland) and finally on strands  (Irish for beach)

So it was horse racing and that church that solved the puzzle for me, I only found your image when I figured out it must be Tramore.

Your other puzzle showing the Vickers factory at Brooklands was a lot easier as my dad worked for Vickers in the late 40's so I immediately recognised the place.

I had fun solving that, thanks for taking the time to post the puzzles,

Regards,

Wayne
