This really should not go up to the Pros. Major manufacturer, better known today for smaller cars, but back in those days they built big powerful ones like this. The Itala was a good guess, in a way.

Come on, Experts!

Fiat 60 HP from around 1907 ?

Because that's the correct answer. I've lost my notes, but I think the puzzle photo was about a museum-owned car taken in the 50s or 60s. The extra photo shown above is I believe the same car today.

I can't understand why this puzzle wasn't solved long ago.

The car belongs to the Larz Anderson Auto Museum

I quote from their site:

"1907 Fiat | Nickname: The Conqueror | Motto: “No Hill Can Stop Me” Powerful and bold, the Andersons’ 1907 Fiat was the supercar of its time.  Even the motto of the automobile, No Hill Can Stop Me, reflected its strength, for many automobiles at this time had difficulty going up hills.  This 11-liter, 6-cylinder Fiat boasted a strength of 65 horsepower; only 86 were manufactured.  Bought by the Andersons while they were on vacation in Europe, the car was then shipped to New York to be re-bodied by the Hol-Tan Company.  Fiat was founded on July 11, 1899, and their 60-hp model was introduced in 1904 and remained in production until 1909. -"
