What on earth is this? The base car may be easy, but what powers the car, and what was it called?

It is indeed based on a 500cc F3 base car, but it's not a Cooper.

I've seen this somewhere but can't remember where

Kieft modified in Australia to take an MG engine?

Yes, it's a Kieft, but that's the easy part. Not Australia, and not MG.  Bit early for a lock, so still open for all.

The Pros - don't you love 'em? Not much gets past these guys. Built and raced by R.Williams.

(The Formula 3 cars of the 50s were light and agile, and ideal for the short British hillclimb events. The 1100cc JAP engine was readily available, so why fit this wheezy lump? )
