I get it!!!        it is a Bedford series W year 1938-39 with a second cab fitted to the roof to provide crew accomodation for Guest, Wood and Ling Ltd., of Bristol, Bath and London. The souce says it was built by Scammell.

Yes, that's the truck. I posted a rear end of the vehicle so that nobody could easily identify the make. The W-series was fitted for those years with the front bodywork of the newer O-Series, and the later engine. It was of course built for house removal services, and overnight accomodation would have been essential because those old trucks were VERY slow.

I think it was the trailer which was built by Scammell. One point.

I suspect that the 'horse' was also built by Scammell on a Bedford chassis.  This looks like a specially built vehicle designed as a single entity to meet G, W & L requirements who would have preferred to deal with a single firm.  Scammell certainly had the necessary skills and would not have needed to subcontract the work.
