For one point, tell me the year, the driver, the car, the place, and what was going on.

Is some kind of a land speed record attempt on the Bonneville Flats in Utah?

You are thinking along the right lines, but it's not Bonneville.

Looking more closely at the picture I was wondering if it might be a beach. So, what about Daytona Beach?

Yes, it is a beach, but not Daytona.

Yes, and locked for you. What was he trying to do on that beach?

Yes. One more point to you. This is the Chevrolet-engined period of his Cooper F1 car. The perspex bubble helped with the streamlining - the attempt took place at Bakers Beach, Tasmania.

To earn your point, specify the name of the car, what powers it, and name the people standing behind it

One point for serra.

The source of the puzzle image, called it a Cooper Climax with a Corvette engine, not a Cooper-Chevrolet.

Can an admin merge the puzzles?

Sorry. NIC#112 - 26 January 2014 original post date.

(The link I gave came up when I looked for my old puzzle and I assumed it was the link reference for my puzzle's page - that shows how much I know about IT).
