Solved NIC#111 - Holden-MG of Mick Watts in Tasmania
« on: January 26, 2014, 06:33:51 AM »
What car is this? The year, the chassis and engine, the builder, and where it is pictured, please.  All for just one point. Be careful, this is Autopuzzles - things are never what they seem.

There is a clear inspiration from a Ferrari 125, but that's not one.

Motor sports historians will claim it looks like a lot of cars of that era, but it may not be one of them. You are correct.

There are tons of clues in your picture but I still can't find anything... :(

And I can't even find out from which country is that license plate. It's not from the USA, right?

Not from the USA. I left the clues there, because the puzzle is very difficult, and the clues do not really help much.

Well done! I actually have the year as 1955, but you're close enough. As you say, the car was built by Harry Firth, sold to Owen Bailey, and the to Mick Watts. It was an MG Y-Type chassis powered by a Holden motor. The car it most resembles in my opinion is the early Connaught L2 and L3 sports racers. The photo was taken at Brickmakers Beach in Tasmania - beach racing was very popular in that part of Australia.
