This one isn't difficult, so I won't put it up to the Pros.

As I've said, it's a race in Belgium, but it isn't a Belgian car. There weren't many countries who raced internationally in those days, so if you solve the marque, you can solve the other details.

Sorry Alex, it wasn't a record breaker, because it was indeed built for GP racing. Majeko has identified the car as a Weigel, a little-known British marque which did not sell very well, but which decided to promote its products through racing at the highest level. This model had a 14866cc engine comprising two 4-cylinder regular motors connected in-line.

As you say, the engine of the GP Weigel is sometimes described as two of their 4-cylinder motors connected in-line.
However I remember seeing a photo of Dan Weigel standing next to the crankshaft of this car, and it is noteworthy for being about as tall as he was (or taller!) and for extreme spindlyness by our standards. It was in a period magazine I no longer have access to and I can't find it on the interweb, but it is referred to by William Court (Power and Glory V1 p19).
I expect there were two cylinder block assemblies that could be said to be the 4-cylinder motors mounted on a common crankcase.
