I'm trying to be carefull but I only have found this exact picture in a web that specifies it as:  1904 French Gordon Bennett Elimination Trial.
If that is incorrect we should send the correct information to the web to avoid misinformation for the future...

I'll be honest - I've forgotten which information is correct, and which is wrong. It's definitely a 1904 car at the trial you stated, so the point is yours. I think that the photo was taken in 1905, and there was confusion about whether it was that year's race or not.

Anyway, well solved.
