We've already had VW. I think I know what the base car is, but I can't find this "special". The donor car was very popular in Australia for a short time, if I'm correct........stop laughing!

It looks too big to be Goggomobil-based, so I'll try Hartnett-Lloyd.

There were no Lloyd engines quite as big as the one in this car AFAIK..

Is  there a German marque we haven't mentioned yet ?

I can't believe it's M-B., but maybe an old 170 motor?

It's not powered by a Ford, Porsche or Renault engine and there's no connection with Hartnett-Lloyd or Goggomobil, so you're barking up the wrong tree nicanary!

There's nothing at all French in it AFAIK Simon, but it's not made up of 100% German bits..

None of the major ones, though some of the minor ones might be as of course not every component is mentioned!

I think I must have too much time on my hands and seem to spend most of it searching for new puzzles!
Very well done; it's quite obscure and even with the Borgward engine information it wasn't easy to find..
It has a rear-mounted 1100 cc Borgward flat-4, VW gearbox and Fiat 600 suspension, so is a real Bitsa!
It also had a fully monocoque glass fibre body and was made by Rob Wallace in Victoria somewhere.

Here's the original photo unmodified:
