Judging by the grille and the wheels it must be based on a 1936 Chevrolet, with body made in England?

the year is roughly okay, otherwise unfortunately nothing is right (not British coachbuilder, not a Chevy chassis)

Bill, though you will have a lot of trouble finding the coachbuilder, but I give you a lock for 24 hours, because you identified the donor correctly. It is a Commer, but the coachbuilder is not from NL or B

Hi Pal:

Thanks for the consideration but though I was quite sure it was a Commer, I have no idea about the body builder.
It does have the appearance of a vehicle at some special function, noting the white armbands etc.  Possibly a funeral
but I am not sure.

In any case, I am more interested in the puzzle getting solved than I am in gaining a point, so please unlock it.

Bill

Those white armbands could denote officials at a race meeting. The Earl Howe had a large Commer which he used to transport his racing cars - could this be a support vehicle?

Cancel the above - it's crazy to think that he would have the van bodied outside the UK. It looks like the Q25 model which was produced both pre-war and after the conflict. I can't think what countries would have bodied a Commer - maybe Norwegian ?

I must be right - that's what it says on Wikipedia

Hi Andy/Pal:

It certainly is not Howe's vehicle, photo below, much earlier, but I think it is a Q25 model as you say.

With all respect, I think Pal has blanked out not only the lettering on the side of the vehicle but also the
windows on the side which might have given us at least a hint on the language.

Given Pal's country of residence and interests, I am looking at Eastern European countries but with no
results so far.

There were no side windows, just a script. Bill is looking in the right direction, in regards to the coachbuilder.

see, you just need to find the only site which mentioned this :)

Picture was taken at the 1938 Budapest Concours d'Elegance. I need to find the original again and then I will post it

Yup, I found it on your site as well but a half an hour too late.  No photo but the vehicle is mentioned.
