I have seen this car before - I think I had it on file as a potential puzzle but now I can't find the details!

It's obviously one of those specials built in Australia in the 1950s when they were short of suitable racing machinery, and seems to be for road and race use. Is it Ford V8 powered?

It's not powered by a Ford engine of any kind!

British base car ?

Yes and no...

So - it's either a British design but built in Australia, or a British chassis or engine, but fitted with a chassis or engine from another country. So that'll be simple then........ ;D

I thought beforehand that the radiator looked like a Morris - was this built on an Australian BMC chassis?

Yes it was, so I'll lock it for you now to see if you can be a bit more specific..

I'm getting nowhere with my investigations. That grille looks like it's from a Morris 8, but the Nuffield Group  started manufacture in Australia in 1950 by which time the cars were Minors and Oxfords. I've tried every combination of Morris/Austin/Wolseley/MG and various models, and nothing has cropped up.

Are the engine and running gear from a pre-war car?

Based on a Morris Major ?

I've just found your puzzle image, and it's simply described as a late 1960s Morris Major. The photo does not seem to appear elsewhere on the internet.

Yes!
That's all I know about it - a Morris Major-based special, which makes it probably late 50s.
It's always disappointing when you see these pictures on blogs and elsewhere but they tell you nothing whatsoever about it.

Front suspension doesn't owe much to the Major which was the torsion bar set up we in UK knew from Morris Minor/Wolseley 1500/Riley 1.5.
Opinionated but sometimes wrong
