Could it be an 'old glory' like a Delahaye or a Delage later rebodied in Italy in the 50's...

So my question is: what about a Talbot-Lago rebodied by Pinin Farina?

No, you're not on the right track there I'm afraid..

All right!  :)

And now, for something completely different: what about a Jaguar base?

Carnut

Yes - Jaguar base is right.
So I'll lock it for you to dig into.
But I'm going to be away on business next week and although I'll try to get access to a computer in most places I may or may not be able to answer questions.  Back only 3rd February.  So you'll have to be patient if you post anything requiring an answer!

Ok, so it must be a E-type, right?

It does contain some E-Type bits, but it's not actually based on one.

The front grill looks like one from Jaguar as well. Is the car based on the chassis of a Jaguar 420 or Mark X?

I believe it's based on a 420 yes, but I'll have to leave this one until I return home!

this car was based on a MK10 and this photo was taken at Thruxton  in the UK in 1970

what I meant was a photo of the car taken at a similiar time was taken at Thruxton in 1970 and this pic appears in Roland Urban's book

Carnut

I've managed to have a quick look at this one and I find it's not actually based on a 420, no, nor is it based on a Mk X.
I'd be very surprised indeed if this photo dates from 1970 or if it appeared in a book, but I may be wrong..
So far few of the puzzle questions posed have been answered..

A picture of this car taken at Thruxton in 1970 appears on page 324 of the book titled "Les Metamorphoses du Jaguar" Roland Urban published in 1992 and I supplied just on half the pictures in the book

Yes, now I recall who you are Terry; I had an idea you were a Jaguar expert.
However, you still haven't given me the answers I'm looking for!
My information gives me the basis chassis, the engine fitted and what other two Jaguars bits were used from, and these are the 4 pieces of information I need to award a point.
I'll lock it for you since you do seem to know the car, and you should be able to find out this information (though I didn't get it from the Internet, which might make it that bit harder..)

Am I going to have to open up this one again and move it to the Experts, Terry?
It's only locked for you until tomorrow now and failing your reply that's what I'll have to do.
