For 1 point identify today's nice red car - who built it and what is it based on?

I have my doubts..
It's presented as a real car with the builder's name, what powers it, what suspension it has and what the body is made of etc..
But the fact that this is the only picture of it I have been able to find (also available with a different background..) would lead me to believe that it is in fact only wishful thinking...

 I think I am right.
It's a "Spaced Out" - Two seater sports car.
This is a custom one of a kind fiberglass sports car made by John Backland.
It has a Corvair Suspension and a Chevrolet V8 rear engine.
The wing in back is removable.

Well done - you get 2 points for solving a Black Hole puzzle!
When I posted this it was called the "John Backland Special" but I have since seen it referred to as "The Wonder Car" built 2001-5; I doubt that was official though.
