Tatra, Italian, French, German - could it be British?

British, rear-engine.  Is it a Cooper?

Is it Morris based? The wheels seem to be from a 1947 Morris Ten or Eight.

I know this car from my memory, but I can't think what it was!

You had better unlock it for others to have a go.  MJW would know, if he's online.

It should be the Mercury Special by Andrews (or was Anderson...).

Well done PJ. I was correct in thinking MJW would know - he set the original puzzle. It's purely a coincidence, but I couldn't get the name Anderson out of my head, because of the 4-wd specials, but they were pre-war, and in any case the answer was Andrews!
