Syrian company "Société des importacion" officially bought at the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant some chassis of GAZ-69 and organized the production of 9-seater vehicles "Ulyanovets (Ульяновец)". And at the 12th International Exhibition in Damascus in 1965 this car was presented at the Soviet stand.

To me personally the word 'Ulyanovets' (the man from city of Ulyanovsk) makes much more sense than 'Ulyanets' (never heard this, to be honest). Hence it is even mor einteresting, why both names were mentioned in your source?
