I can understand why pnegyasi thought it might be Australian - the licence plate shape is not typical of the UK.

I can't find anything yet. I'm sure it's bodied in the late 40s on a pre-war chassis, possibly a PB model. Is this a British coachbuilder?

Belgian ?

Yes, it is. I've found it at last - it's the personal car of Jacques Swaters. It is photographed in 1950 alongside his BMW 328.

Yes ! :)

The car is mentioned in Paul Frere's autobiography - it was a 1936 model PB and had been rebodied by an owner named Bonneau after he had been involved in an accident. It was purchased by Swaters in 1948 and together with Frere he took part in the 1948 Spa 24-hour race. However the picture of the car in Frere's book shows it to be nothing like the puzzle photo, but just like a slightly more streamlined standard PB with a shapely nose cowl. I think Swaters must have had this Colli-style body made for it after it had retired from racing.

This is the same car during the 1948 Spa race - much more like a pre-war car in style. I wonder who bodied the car in its puzzle form?
