Apart from the slightly protruding headlights it looks very close to the 1933 Mercedes Benz 200 designed by Paul Jaray and built by Erdmann & Rossi. Is the puzzle's car related to that one ?

It's based on a Merc, but not a Jaray body or done by Erdmann&Rossi

Has it been made post-war as a tribute to Paul Jaray's work ?

According to the Swiss blog where I found that picture, the car was built in 1934 by Huber & Brühwiler for AVP, the Aktiengesellschaft für Verkehrspatente, founded by Paul Jaray and Walter de Haas in order to make commercial use of the Jaray patents in Switzerland. The puzzle picture may have been taken in 1955, but the car is 21 years older.
