That's an unusual style of car - it's unlikely to be a 500cc Formula 3 racer because it has lighting and a spare wheel. But it appears to be a single-seater. I'm guessing there's a staggered (and very small) spare seat to the side of the driver to comply with sports car regulations.

Is it Fiat engined ?

A bit of a long shot, but it explains the spare wheel and lights - is this the Rovin-JAP of Jean Bernadet winning his class at the 1952 Bol d'Or ?

The car looks very old-fashioned but the driver is wearing a helmet, which suggests a date after the mid-30s. I've looked up results but the usual site which provides this information has very little data. I'm having to guess here - is it the Aricyclecar of Thirriot?

Is it a Colin from the 1934 race? They were powered by a vertical twin, and the engine in the puzzle photo looks like it's of that format.
