Can't say I remember this one, but it looks MG (XPAG) engined to me.

Can't say I remember this one, but it looks MG (XPAG) engined to me.

Unfortunately, the front mudguard hides the central exhaust system, and I can't see if it's one pipe, or a siamesed pair. I rather assumed it was a 6-cylinder engine.

I'm baffled. It looks familiar, but I can't think where to look.

No, it's not Bristol-engine nicanary.
Allan is right in that it has an MG engine, quite probably an XPAG although my information didn't say exactly.

This is, I assume, a one-off homebuilt?

I was sure i had seen this before, It is the LEco MG MKI and as MKII by Liss Engineering Company with Fred Sturges and Peter Tompkins built around 1952. It used a  1292-cc four-cylinder engine and four-speed gearbox from a 1937 MG TA. Suspension used transverse leaf springs, front and rear. The Mk 1’s rack-and-pinion steering gear came from a Morris Minor. Chassis tubes for the Mk 1 were sourced from Connaught Engineering. Aluminum bodywork evolved with a Vanwall nose cone.
This is the photo I had from the other LEco Puzzle http://www.autopuzzles.com/forum/index.php?topic=29358.msg347858#msg347858
