Yes, that's why it was difficult to find! I had been searching using the name "Gillespie", but the web page concerned consistently spells it "Gillesppe". I'm guessing it's a mistake, but does anyone know for sure?

I'd searched on the name Eugene several times but got nowhere. Today I missed out the Gillespie bit and Googled "mg race eugene", and it came up as the first hit!

There are other Gillesppe's with that spelling (but no other cars that I'm aware of) ;)

The car was built by Jack Hagemann for Bob Gillespie
All my printed material show Gillespie not Gillesppe.

Was it based on an Italian chassis and/or engine?

MG based?

Yes. If you can work out which model of MG, you may be able to search the web for the answer.

Gillesppe Special MG TD with Eugene Osborn at the wheel in 1952.

Sorry D-Type but AlexFrance got the full answer and wins the point. And now for a confession - I found the car on what is obviously the same website as Alex, and therefore I also have the car as a Gillesppe Special. In fact the surname of the owner was spelled Gillespie, and is incorrect on that site. If I had known that, I would also have found in a preliminary search that this car has featured before on AP. It was a puzzle of Otto Puzzell #1854 first placed on 11.1.2011.

So, a point for AlexFrance, and now could an editor merge the 2 puzzles?

Here's another photo of the car in action.

Re the above - according to the internet it's the same car, but it's obviously not. Sorry for posting the image in haste without checking. I know that Gillespie raced a TC before the TD - maybe this is an earlier Special of his. Whoops!

Definitely Gillespie. The site where AlexFrance and myself found the image has spelt the owner's name incorrectly. In all other internet references to his name it is shown as Bob Gillespie.
