Barrett's #323 - Solved - 1978 Healey Fiesta
« on: September 20, 2012, 11:09:44 AM »
Not quite standard. A point if you can tell me what this car is and who was responsible for the transformation, and why it is significant

Correct so far, but can you answer the last part of the question and tell me why this car is significant?
Locked for you, of course

Well, Donald and Geoff Healey made this car as a one-off and was meant to be a sort of 'hot hatch' version of the Fiesta (in the USA). They put in a 1599cc engine of an Escort and made it produce 105bhp. But ... just as they wanted to put it in production, Ford Europe decided to stop importing the Fiesta into the USA and so the car remained a one-off. Ford Europe kept the car untill it was auctioned off in 2000. An American Healey-enthousiast bought the car and restored it ...

I seem to have forgotten about this one. I'm giving you the point and moving it to solved, but what I was looking for to complete the answer was that this was the very last official Healey car. Rather an ignominious end for the marque, although I do actually quite like the look of this Fiesta

That is a Ford Fiesta enhanced by Donald Healey. I think it must be of 1977 and it's called the 'Healey Fiesta'.
It's a prototype for a car meant to enter production, I believe for the American market, but it never got that far.

Yes indeed.
I thought this one might be a bit more of a brain-teaser; I'd never heard of it until very recently.
