Who raced this car, and what was it called?

The point goes to Shamrock for the correct answer.

I saw the name "longbacon", and knew it had to be a puzzle, even if it would be solved quickly.

The owner/driver was Nigel Moores of the Littlewoods Pools company, also well-known for their shopping catalogues.

The car was effectively a rebodied Lotus 7.

Blame XTC. They made the plans.

Nigel Moores also raced later as (inter alia) Willie Eckerslyke - to avoid family and company criticism that he was putting his life, and therefore the company, at risk.
D type Jaguars and a Ferrari 625, since you ask.
Opinionated but sometimes wrong

Great alias but one that will be lost on anyone from outside the UK and most within it UK too (unless you're from Lancashire!)
Eckerslyke = how the Lancashire  slang expression "Heck as like" meaning something like "Not bloody likely" would be pronounced, for those not in the know!

Even with Yorkshire ancestry I can say the name comes from a simple Lancashire question and answer:
"Will 'ee win???"
"Will 'ee 'eck as like!"

You're absolutely right, it is a West Yorkshire* expression too, but I didn't want to complicate it as Nigel Moores was a Lancastrian!

*Definitely not an East or North Yorkshire one though, despite BBC Drama's best efforts to promote Yorkshire as one county where everyone speaks with one accent, somewhere in between Halifax and Heckmondwike!

Don't get me started with Norfolk and Suffolk accents. Actors just don't seem to "get it". Suffolk people say "oot" just like Canadians.
