Who made this, what was it meant to be, and(roughly) when did it happen?

Hello! I'm back from the dead - sort of, just popping in briefly. I have no time to puzzle any more as real life has gotten too busy and I spend all day reading about obscure old cars at work too...

This is neither a Panhard, nor a BMW/EMW

It's from a known marque, but they didn't build that many cars

I'm guessing it was made in 1952 and that it was meant to be a sports racing sports model?

I've looked further and found this exact car and 3 more pictures, but the most information I can find is that it is a Paramount Special, license plate RNU 655.

That's pretty much it, yeah. A factory-built idea for a sportier Paramount, but there doesn't seem to much more known about it. Much prettier than the cars they did build and probably had a better chance of success, but they stuck with the overbodied wheezy Ford Ten-powered DHCs.

And look where that got them...!

According to my interpretation of Paramount's history in Georgano's Encyclopedia, it was an idea of the company's second owner, Meynell Motor Co of Melbourne, Derbyshire, which would make it around 1951/52. They probably lacked the funds to develop the car, and were bought-out themselves in 1953.

I've just realised that the puzzle photo appears on the front cover of the book written by Peter Tutthill covering the history of Paramount Cars. So we really should have solved it a bit more quickly!
