I think the answer you are looking for ASC is American Sunroof Corporation Founded in 1965 by Heinz Prechter but I have doubts because I have read that this company shortened the name to ASC icorporated just in 1982 and I believe now is known as  American Specialty Cars. I hope this was enough  :)

That is what I was looking for, yes.
I suppose Ford did it in conjunction with them as they knew more about leaking targa roofs..!
I didn't know about the name change though; I've always known them as American Sunroof Corporation!
