I don't know who built this, just where and what it's base is as well as what it's supposed to be.
If you can tell me those answers you'll be rewarded with 1 point!

Built on a VW Karmann-ghia base? Attempt at an early Porsche?
I must be right - that's what it says on Wikipedia

A VW yes, but not a Karmann-Ghia.
Yes, it's meant to be a Porsche replica.
Now, where is it from?

I'm not in my comfort-zone here, I'm one of the sacriligious "it's a glorified VW" brigade. Russia?

Not from Russia..

VW-based Porsche look-a-like from former East Germany (DDR) ?

..but it was built in the old DDR when it existed.  I think it was said to be based on a KDF-Wagen, but I suppose that's the same thing...

I'll be really generous and give you both a point since I didn't get the chance to reply to nicanary and give him another go at where it was built, before mekubb gave the right answer to solve the final part of the question..

Once again, a point for nothing. You're too generous. Funny thing is, the reason why I said Russia is because I thought maybe it was based on an old Kubelwagen left over from "Barbarossa" - the rear wheel arch shape made me claim Karmann influence.

(OT thank you again for the edit elsewhere - I had just spotted it and was about to make amends)
