Must be a rather powerful car judging by the looks, despite the (seemingly) small dimensions.

I think it's a circa 1971 Katipo (MJ70?). Guess we've had another Katipo before, that one was an offset single seater built on the basis of an Australian Matich SR4 sportscar. I'm also a bit stuck with their model designations: they're called M70 or MJ70 (the offset car was also called MJ70-2 in one of the sources).

P.S. Found this picture. Said to have been called simply a Katipo F5000, it seems, but a Formula Ford was christened MJ70c, so this kind of an index sounds probable.

Well done Faksta! I'm not very good on anything after 1965, and that one had me confused. here's a photo of the beast in action - Dennis Phillips driving the car owned by Mark Petch. It's captioned as an MJ70A. Just look at those narrow rims for all that power!

Indeed! This is the picture which I remembered, as the car looked similar to it. However, this is another car, the one with an offset driving position. As far as I understand, the puzzle picture is of another chassis, even though they look very similar.

I've found another image of the puzzle car, which shows that the driver was in an offset position, but not as much as the other picture I posted. So maybe you are correct - there were 2 cars. There is a complicated forum discussion on the web about this, and one very respected historian says there was only one car. I suppose it doesn't matter - the puzzle has been solved!

I've been taken away by all those discussions to some extent, but on one of the forums you might have noticed messages from the builder's son. He might know about whether there was one F5000 or there were two of them.
