Solved: Where the streets have no name
« on: February 06, 2013, 08:28:49 AM »
I promised to celebrate my 1,000th point with a group puzzle. Well, here it is.

In the following you will find thirteen street pictures and thirteen other pictures where names are missing. You will find out very quickly what those "no name" pictures are. All you have to do is to find the connections between the streets and the "no names". To prove that you are right, you have to put the right name to the "no name", name the street which includes the city it can be found in, and tell how they are connected. To make it a little harder, one pair is not connected which will make it a little harder. You can get two points for identifying that street.

Have as much fun as I had with the 1,000 puzzles I solved and the thousands of puzzles I didn't.  ;D

No. It wouldn't be AutoPuzzles if there wasn't an automobile connection, though this time the connections are quite specific.

You are right about Street M and the reason why I picked that street picture. I will lock Street M for you for 24 hours to find out the connection to one of the other pictures. Just remember the reason for this puzzle and let your memories wander back a little bit in time...

To solve this puzzle I think we have to look back to some earlier puzzles by Wendax, many of which had titles which I, for one, failed to see the significance of at the time.

But on a first look through, I recognised Street F, as I managed to identify it in a group puzzle a while back. It’s Avenue d’Ivry in Paris, and the building is the former Panhard car factory. The puzzle also included a number of beaches to identify, and in this case one of the cars made at the factory was the twin-engined Citroën 2CV Safari, an example of which was the first car to be driven to the top of the Dune du Pyla in south west France.

The title of the puzzle was Vamos a la Playa (Let’s go to the Beach), and that links to No Name 4, which is the cover artwork for Righeira’s 1983 single of the same name.

Great puzzle!

Looking through Meat Loaf's discography, No Name 12, Paradise by the Dashboard Light stands out as also having been the title of a group puzzle.

I didn’t score any points in that one, but one of the cars featured was a Wendax WS 750. Wendax cars were made at Wendenstraße 151 in Hamburg, and that’s the address shown in Street I, now a Snack Bar.

You are right in identifying the record title and the location. The problem is that I incorporated Wendax cars in several group puzzles, so that Street I can't be matched unambiguously unless you know the correct matches to the other puzzles Wendax cars appeared in. Meanwhile I will lock Street I for you.

OK, I'm not sure about this, but I'll have another try at Street I, Wendenstraße in Hamburg.

This time I think it might link with No Name 10, the New Christy Minstrels, and song/group puzzle Three Wheels On My Wagon. That puzzle included a Wendax WL 250 light delivery truck.

If I have understood correctly, the three-wheelers made by Draisinenbau Alpers at Wendenstraße 151 were the first vehicles to be given the name "Wendax", and that in turn was derived from the street name Wendenstraße.

Please unlock if that is wrong, as I'm not going to have a lot of time over the next few days.

Well done, that is the right one.

You can still see the Wendax logo at the building: Baron Karl Drais on his invention, the draisine.

Back to No Name 12, Paradise by the Dashboard Light by Meat Loaf, and the group puzzle of the same title.

One of the dashboards featured in that was from a Tatra T87. This links to Street D, which is a view of part of the present-day Tatra factory seen from the end of a road called Štefánikova, in Kopřivnice in the Czech Republic.

No Name8: Back to the egg by the Wings (Paul McCartney) connects to Street M which Julien 1A was kind enough to decode earlier. The Back to the egg group puzzle featured a lot of Brütsch and Brütsch-derived cars

Yes, that was the missing bit for that street.

A fair gesture.
