Double panoramic windows and rooftop glass should enlighten you.

For one point, please respond and identify this bus.

Apparently right hand drive?  Passenger door on the left.  So presumably a country that drives on the left.  Short wheelbase so somewhere with winding roads.

New Zealand?

Not from a country that drives on the left.

I think so. I have the name of the bus, a name of a company which probably built it, the technical base, a timespan of two years and the knowledge that more than one was built. That's about it.

The bodywork looks pretty much like Auwärter, but that's German, not Swiss :/

Yes, and not very surprising: the company's name is not a well-known one. On the other hand, the name of the bus comprises of better known parts.

One name relating to the technical base, one describing the vehicle itself.

The name relating to the technical base is a model name, the one describing the vehicle itself is a Swiss synonym for bus.

Nothing electric there, but "Car" is the second part of the puzzle vehicle's name.

Could it be the Renault Reisecar bodied by Hess ?
Title: Re: Wendax 914
Post by: Wendax on July 08, 2013, 01:03:18 PM
Now you are up to something. Find out which Renault model it is based on, and you have the name: XXXXXXX-Car (Don't count the Xs). Locked for you.

I think Hesscar is just a travel company that used this bus, no connection to the coachbuilder Hess there.

The Hesscar site describes it as being bought in 1956, so it couldn't be an Estafette, which was issued in 1959.  Maybe Voltigeur-Car ?

Title: Re: Wendax 914

Tatatata!
It is the Frégate Car or Car Frégate. The ads and brochures just name the general distributer Sprenger & Lüber resp. Willy Sprenger of St. Gallen. I guess they were responsible for the production, too, but I don't know where these buses were actually built. Any additional information is welcome.

One hard-earned point for you.
