I'm guessing a hillclimb special, although the construction appears to be rather heavier and stronger than would be required. Parts of the frame appear to be from a mid-1930s American Ford. The driveline appears to be closed back to the differential, where I'm guessing a stub-axle is fitted with a chain drive to the back wheel, which may be of motorcycle origin. The engine appears to be an inline four. The radiator shell may be from a Morris Cowley.

There are suggestions in the photo that it took part in a French event - is it anything to do with Sandford?
I must be right - that's what it says on Wikipedia

Oui, it is French, and has a distant connection with Sandford (but no Morris nor American Ford connection).

The Sandford used a Ruby engine, and so did the d'Yrsan. Is this a road-going d'Yrsan Scarabee?

This doesn't use a Ruby engine.

Taupin Type T from 1930, a one-off with a four-cylinder 1100 cc Scap engine, 90 km/h top speed.

To the right you can see the Nivet-DKW (http://www.autopuzzles.com/forum/index.php?topic=15584.0) in the puzzle picture.

Well done Wendax; it is of course the Taupin Type T from 1930.

I took my photo at AutoMedon in Paris last October.  Where you there too?

No, I wasn't. I took those photos from the net. It looks like a nice collection of tricyclecars were on display there.
