Solved: Wendax 765 - T & P
« on: December 29, 2012, 01:51:48 AM »
Recently I stumbled across this one I only have scarce information about. But what I know is too much to add this one to the Enigma Variations.

For one point, please respond and identify this car. All I know is a name (or abbreviation) from the radiator, the area where it was probably built and an approximate year. I didn't find any reference in the literature. Additional information is welcome.

Interesting. It has some cues of the BZ for example. Or the SB.

In Any case I think it is German

It is German, but not a BZ nor a SB.

My apologies. Berlin-area?

Yes, the picture was taken by a photographer from a nearby town.

I think I have located the source of your photo, which is an old postcard (postmarked June 17, 1924 in Charlottenburg, and published by Art Studio Schroter, Potsdam).  If this is correct, the letters on the radiator are TP, or possibly TIP.

I can't seem to connect this to any known production vehicle, but I have a theory which I can neither prove or disprove, so I will put it in the form of a question, in the hope that it might trigger some ideas which might direct you to something in your research material which I am sure is far greater than mine, especially as it is in your home country.  My thought is: Might this vehicle be the result of an academic research project at a local school/university?  Somehow the overall appearance of the vehicle (the line, finish, etc.) reminds me of an advanced technical school project, and the date is correct for the period when there was lots of development for this type of light car.  I was theorizing something like the Technical Institute Potsdam, or something similar.  I don't know if such a place exists, or ever existed, but perhaps you know, or know how to find out.

Wow, you certainly found my source. I think the radiator lettering reads "T & P", but I ain't sure either. Your suggestion about a university car is interesting, but I think the car does not look advanced enough to be of academic origin. Furthermore there was no polytechnical institute in Potsdam ever, as far as I know. I didn't find any German car make at that time fitting the TP initials. But it could have been a one-off that escaped the historians. It wouldn't be the only one (http://www.autopuzzles.com/forum/index.php?topic=17997;)

One very well-earned point for you.

Thanks for the point Gerd.  I hadn't really considered the T+P option, but with a little study I think this might have some real possibility, although, like you, I can't find a reference to any vehicle with this letter combination, but I'll keep looking.
