I just found out that this very picture was subject of an enquiry at the Surrey Vintage Vehicle Society in 2013, subtitled "Unusual roadster being investigated by AutoPuzzles". I don't know who tried to use their expertise, but IMHO it doesn't correspond to the AutoPuzzles spirit.  >:(

I'm not so sure I disapprove. 
It wasn't me, but I have been known to contact Owners' Clubs and even manufacturers to try to glean information.
I enjoy delving into all sorts of sources, not just books and the Internet and you do hear some great stories - usually biased one way or another and not necessarily reliable..!

I agree with you that there are many ways to solve a puzzle. Nothing against asking experts for help, but asking the guys at SVVS (who are doing a great job) is more like "Let the other guys do the work" than "Let your fingers do the walking", if you know what I mean.

I am not voting for any kind of punishment on asking the SVVS. I just felt a little upset, but that may well be my personal problem.
