For one point: what is it, and what is it supposed to illustrate?

Only a correct, complete and specific answer will earn a point; tag-on's to other guesses will not. So, be specific and complete!

At first I thought this might be a stylist's illustration of a 1970's GM proposal of some kind, or a study for a show car for the aluminum industry or something like that . . . but no. Thank heavens for my misspent youth of model car building. This is actually a box illustration of a 1/25-scale plastic model kit from AMT, representing a 1976 AMC Gremlin . . . the picture shows it built as a "Custom GT" version, the parts for which were included in the kit (which could also be built stock).

Well done fyreline! :)

I thought it may possibly be an illustration from an AMT box, but wasn't 100% sure as I couldn't find the exact one.

Some of those model kit boxes had some great illustrations, my pocket money went on those kits as well.
