Any Fiat connection, however?

We have some Fiat connections, but the car is not a proper Fiat.

Indeed it is...In 1962 Fiat made some experiment for a front wheels drive car, with the 1100 D (1221 cc) engine, but doesn't wanted to put it on the market with the Fiat logo, so the car would become the Autobianchi Primula.
Another point for you.

Isn't the Primula the car that's generally regarded as being the first proper hatchback on the market, kick-starting a trend which was to change the whole car market forever (notwithstanding those countries like the US and China that prefer saloons with a boot..)?

I don't agree. The Primula was the project "109" developed by ing. Giacosa's team in Turin. This one is indeed the "Tipo 07" developed by Fiat's Forschungsabteilung in Neckarsulm: totally another project (with only same architecture and similar engine). I don't think it can in any way be considered a prototype for the Primula (that in 1962 was already totally developed and under industrialization phase).

That's what appeared in Quattroruote, 1962 (don't remember the number); perhaps the project 007 and 109 had been used together to realize the Primula, that went into the market in 1964.
The only think I have for sure is that quiz car and Primula look like twin brothers.
