Neither the chassis or the coachbuilder came from Austria and with Vatican City Italy has also been excluded

I could say that either the chassis or the coachbuilder came from Hungary, but that would be torture. So I am helping you a bit: the chassis is Hungarian

Hi Pal:

A bit late for you tonight, but some observations and a question to try to cut down on research time.

Thanks to your websites and others, one can get a good handle on Hungarian vehicles and coach builders.

That has lead me to view that which I was not aware of before, the strength of Hungarian commercial vehicle imports.  Both, during the "Cold War" period to various Soviet Union affiliated countries, and afterwards to countries like Syria, Turkey and Iran in the "After Cold War but we still do not like the West" period.

My "clue" question is, was this vehicle exported to or bodied in one of those two "Cold War" scenario countries.  I hope that is not too many questions.

Bill
Cheers
Bill

The whole bus was built behind the Iron Curtain - so it was definitely a product of the Cold War.

The body of this bus was made in 1956 by Autokaroserija Split for the Promet company of Split. The donor of the chassis is not clearly indicated on the site -due to the Google croatian translation- but I'll try Ikarus, as the Csepels bodied by Autokaroserija Split are slightly different.  There is even an image of a bus whose logo is IF and which is described as an Ikarus, even if it looks like an Isotta Fraschini.
