The guy was big, but I donīt think he ever was the tallest guy of the UK.

I think then conversion had three possible reasons:
- he IS tall
- he wanted better general visibility
- improved access to the car.
But it will not help you to find the solution.

Perhaps too generous with the clue...
Here it is, designed by Dr Eric Puddy of Norfolk in 1962, for an upright driving position and easy access.
