Identify the marque, model and year for a point.
A second point for the story behind this car and the name of the person reclining in it.......

Nearly but not quite..... 192x Star 14/x0
Not specifically for a shooting party but it may have included a firearm or two in its equipment.
Still locked for you.

Yes, it's a 1927 Star 14/40.
It also had a special name linked to its purpose.

Not designed for a safari but you're in the right continent.
Still locked for you.....

An expedition is correct but not from south to north (or north to south)

I think you've given me too many clues already ! I have taken your hint but can find nothing on the web - even the Star Register don't mention it. Unlock if you like.

Okay, thanks - you get the point for identifying the marque, model and year as I stated in the original post.
OPEN again for the second part of the puzzle......

Sadly, I feel like a bit of a vulture here, but I was on it since yesterday and it got locked.

The owner was Diana Strickland, the car is named the "Star of the Desert"

The voyage was from Dakar to Massaua, West Coast of Africa to East Coast.

Cheers

No need to feel sad Bill - you are indeed correct and I'm happy to award you the other point.

There's nothing more to add except provide two views (one the original unaltered photo) and the other a Star advertisement pointing out the qualities of the car and the courage of its driver, Mrs. Diana Strickland.

I nearly "pinched" one yesterday but I'm trying to wean myself off the practice ! Well done, I couldn't find anything, but I've now found the source of the photo. Who the hell was she ? Nothing on Wiki.

I sent you a couple of PMs about Diana, not too much more I am afraid.

She also wrote a book " Through the Belgian Congo" in 1922, a trip made by foot and animal.

Quite the amazing lady but sort of typical of the "Upper Crust Englishwomen" of the period.
Maybe an early Margaret Thatcher..........

Ah but Margaret Thatcher wasn't Upper Crust.
She was the daughter of a grocer from Stamford, Lincolnshire, and lived in rooms above the shop.
Amidst all the rubbish written and believed by people who know nothing it should be remembered she was actually a champion of the working classes.  It's not how she'll be remembered, however, as the Left liked to have her as their bete noire...

Now, Norman, you have once again exposed the lack of knowledge we Colonials have regarding our former home country, at least it was my former home country.

To me, anyone with a British accent is "Upper Crust", I just can't help it. ;)

I am sure you got the drift of my thought anyway.

Just getting that bee out of my bonnet..
I know the old Hollywood idea of England as a country populated by aristocrats who live in 200 room mansions, who speak with not just one but a whole basket of plums in their mouths and were all educated at Eton followed by Oxford, yes!  I can assure you though that I have a British accent but I'm not at all Upper Crust!
