If I remember rightly this is from Czechoslovakia and is based on Skoda running gear. I do have a picture of it in a magazine but it will take some pretty dedicated digging to find it I think....
-
You are partly right, it is from Czechoslovakia. And the one which was based on Skoda was a later one. This one is not based on a Skoda
-
Surprisingly I found the magazine pretty quickly, unfortunately there is no other information there though!
-
Yes, that's the one. You receive a 24 hour lock - maybe you'll find this
-
I've had no luck I'm afraid, I had a good search online but it's hard to know what to even look for....
Does it use the engine from a car built in the Eastern Bloc?
-
No, to begin with, it's engine wasn't sourced from an automobile

Sepal c.1950?

Not a Sepal and younger
-
Jawa motorcycle engine?
-
A motorcycle engine - but not a Jawa
-
I know it hasn't been asked yet but is the car Tatra-based?
-
I don't think it had a proper donor, at least it is not mentioned in my sources.
-
Powered by a BMW motorcycle engine?
-
Now we are getting somewhere. Now it is locked for you :)!

Thanks - it may take me a little while to come back with an answer but hopefully it will be the right one!

I haven't managed to find the exact photo of the puzzle car but I have come across a photo of an open-wheeled sports racer that looks very similar to it.
What I think it may be is an HMV with a 750cc BMW engine early 1950s?
I'm wondering if the puzzle car was rebodied at some stage with a fully enveloping body.....
-
You are very close to the solution as the puzzle car was based on the HMV. And to give you even more assistance: later on, the car was thoroughly updated and then it received a Skoda engine.
So it is still locked for you - I am sure you can now find it easily

Perhaps not so easy!
Did it become the Strela Skoda of 1956?
If not I have another suggestion but then let others have a go......
-
And you found it. This is one of the three Strela racecars. As far as I understand these were powered by a BMW 750 cc motorcycle engine. Originally built in 1954, these were constantly modified and upgraded.
Picture was taken at the 1957 Grand Prix held Városliget (City Park) in Budapest where two Strela cars participated.

Thanks Pal - I'm now much more familiar with the small Czechoslovakian marques although I have to say there are many I still haven't seen a photo of yet.
