Topic: Solved -PJ525- Sabre from South Africa

Ok Paul, looking more closely at the licence plate area...it seems to be shaped for a South African type licence plate. So it must have come to the USA, where it became neglected & a mysterion. Using google from South Africa, I have been unable to find the car.

I saw that someone sold the molds in 2007 to 'kitcarguy' (or he was the person who sold them to 'Slipondajimmy').
In any case it won't help you much: "As some of you might know I recently purchased a set of molds to build a car. Well the person I purchased them from also has a completed body with a tube chassis. The origins of the car are not completely known."

The name used for the company is not that original, there are at least 3 more companies with that name and at least 16 models of other makers. Searching for that name on AP gives 2 pages of results.

Some more information on the Sabre:

the Sabre appeared briefly in 1991 (CAR April 1991) and boasted impressive credentials. It was developed in Pinetown by Sabre Car Development, a company set up by none other than John Donnelly (ex Brabham F1 designer) and partners David Lomas and Graham Fraser.

The Sabre was a mid-engined sportscar that weighed only around 800 kg and made use of a 110 kW 2,0-litre, 16-valve VW Golf engine driving the rear wheels through a VW five-speed gearbox. The chassis was a monocoque tub of bonded and riveted Zintex alloy sheeting, to which the front and rear suspension frames were bolted. The body was of glass reinforced plastic (GRP). The car’s suspension comprised of unequal length upper and lower wishbones all-round with adjustable coil/damper units, two anti-roll bars and disc brakes all-round. The top speed was calculated to be 220 km/h. Inside, the Sabre featured leather/vinyl trim and cloth-covered Recaro seats. Air-conditioning, electric windows and central locking were fitted.
