The reference I have does not say which model Singer was used, except to say that it was a 1952 model with a 1.5 liter engine.  I believe that the only 1952 Singer models to use the 1.5 liter engine were the SM1500 sedan, and the 4AD Singer Roadster.  Because the 4AD was exported to North America, I suspect that it would have been more readily available to two college boys from Southern California, so I will try the 4AD Singer Roadster.

Well, actually I understand it's the other one but if I say the 4AD is not the one then ergo, it's the other one anyway so we'll call it solved!

I must be right - that's what it says on Wikipedia

So the body is really plastic. It is not an H-mod racing car

This is a Singer 1500 roadster based car built in California by Kelly Buchanan and Bob Arnt in 1954.
The driver is maybe Dick Van Laanen?

pnegyesi

a perfect answer and a well-deserved point
