What's this, what's the base, who is it by, when does it date from, but crucially for the point - what's the full story said to be behind it and what happened to it?

ANYONE FOUND GIVING ANSWERS OBTAINED BY USING GOOGLE SEARCH BY IMAGE MAY BE BANNED FOR AN INDETERMINATE PERIOD!

The car started its life as a spider by Touring. The engine was a 12C 4500.
It raced in Mille Miglia 1951 with Bonetto-Casnaghi with the new body by Vignale.
The car was for sale around 1952-'53.
An hypotesis is that the car became the Plymouth Nardi Raggio Azzurro...

That's it exactly!
The puzzle picture shows it as the "Bonetto Alfa" with its 1951 Vignale body, but there are strong beliefs that this car was used as the basis for the Nardi Silver Ray by Raymond Loewy.

This is the form in which it raced. It was a sister car to the special-bodied Daetwyler car we had recently as another puzzle.
