EMW 1952 prototype possibly?

It is EMW-based from around that time, so I'll lock it to see what else you can find out.

Not that I am aware of, though I can't say with absolute certainty.

I know the site where this picture comes from, and again I have my doubts about the correctness of the identifications given there. The source talks about an East German EMW-based Eigenbau. The design looks like early 1950s, following the Fiat 1400 fashion. Why should someone do this work on a fairly new EMW? And again, the wheels don't match with an EMW. I rather think that it is a pre-WW2 chassis, rebodied in the first half of the 1950s in the GDR.

Yes, I thought the same thing too, but there are reasons why someone rebodies a fairly new car; perhaps the EMW was crashed beyond reasonable repair and someone acquired it from the insurance company and put his own body on to the remaining mechanicals, which might also explain the different wheels.  I really don't know!

You've identified it as far as I had it anyway so the point is yours.

Comparing the bodywork with the NSU/Fiat 1100 bodied by Fiedler of Neugersdorf I think this BMW was bodied there, too: https://www.autopuzzles.com/forum/features-stories-and-photos/eigenbau-of-the-month/msg642680/#msg642680
