At last, a Rookie who can answer puzzles. Yes, spot on, although  my source says the original motor was a Chrysler Spitfire 6 260ci, later replaced by a flathead V8. A point for you.

(Oddly, several references quote the build date as 1937, which would be difficult since the engine was from a '41 car).

Is that the classic 'home-built" story.  Building started in 1937, but it took longer than planned (and then there was the distraction that started at pearl Harbor in 1941)

(In case you're interested, when using the search I typed Ingalls as the key word, and requested search all topics. Nothing. Yet now the original puzzle comes up when doing the exact same thing. I can't win. Anyway, sorry for repeatedly duplicating puzzles).
