Apparently, it could be translitered as Chingkanshan as well.

Jingangshan Sedan, 1958 chinese "people's car". I'm not sure of the way we should write its name, though !  ;D

It seems it used a rear engined 4-cylinder 1,200 cc, probably borrowed from a VW Beetle, as it seems. The production was made by BAW, aka Beijing Auto Works, with less than 100 cars made.

Yes, itīs a hell of a problem to follow the roots of vintage chinese cars...

Hereīs a translation of an indian site explaining some details of this car:
Quote
April 1958 is the initial milestone China apply the concept cars of the people. Is the designation of the Beijing Government to Beijing First Auto Accesoy Car Factory to develop a small sedan to replace the role of a rickshaw in Beijing.

June 1958 the first people's car the Jingangshan, copying the rear engined VW Beetle 1.2 liters was launched. For political reasons this model produced only 100 units.

I agree ! In fact, it is always a headache to tell what's what in the Chinese car industry.

Of course, it was less messy in the beginning, with scarce brands and models. It seems it was the same factory that produced later the more "famous" jeep BJ 212.

Actually we've had this one before so it's a re-post.
It won't be easy to find the original to merge them though...

You did well to find that one!
So there are another 2 spellings..
Seems there are no hard and fast rules to convert Chinese hieroglyphics into Latin script so there will be any number of spellings..

Anyway, it's merged now.

When I was in Kaohsiung, Taiwan the main street which naturally was named after Chiang Kai-Shek was spelt four different ways at different points!
According to Wikipedia, the standard transliteration method in China is the [Hanyu] Pinyin system and the next most common is the Wade-Giles method.  And there are several more.
According to Georgano, the Pinyin name of this car is Jinggangshan and the Wade-Giles name is Chingkangshan.  I'm not sure what systems the other spellings are from.
