Looks as if it may have a highly exciting  ;) Ford Popular chassis and engine.

It contains Ford parts so is some kind of Ford special, but not one of the 1172 cc Ford Pop specials!

Sorry to detract slightly from the main picture, but almost as mystifying is the car parked in the structure behind the red sports car. Maybe you could make it a two-pointer?! Identify both for a two points for the price of one picture offer. ;) :D

I hadn't even noticed a car in the garage!
Just looking it just in the puzzle photo I'd say it was a Mercedes Benz 190D, so do I get a point?!

Is this car British?  The Mercedes in the background suggests it isn't.

It looks like a Buchanan PTY. fiberglass body, but the spec is different from the other cars they built. Is it Holden powered?

It does look like one, but with substantial differences.  Maybe the builder started out with a Buchanan..
But it's Ford-based, as we've already really established (well, almost anyway..)

According to an advert trying to locate the car, it is a "Replica Ferrari 250 TestaRosa" (sic) built in the late 1950s in Adelaide, out of Ford Mercury parts and panels, with a Ford flathead V8 for power.

Aside from the mention of using Ford panels in its construction, I'd still favor the notion that the builder used a body marketed as a kit car by Buchanan.

Yes, you've found the car.
I don't know about the Buchanan connection; if you're going to try to make a 250TR replica then a Buchanan is probably the easiest starting point, but there are substantial differences between one and this car, particularly around the front but also the rear.  The front wheel-arch is the biggest similarity, and the cabin area is possible similar too.

I don't suppose we'll ever know...!
