I have it as a Ohta PH-1, 1954.

One of the latest car made by Ohta, a japanese maker that was active between 1934 and 1957.

... just read in the Georgano encyclopaedia that Ohta started serial-production of small cars and trucks in 1922, and that their business was bought out by Kurogane, another Tokyo car'n'trucks building company, in 1957.

It seems the PH-1 didn't lasted long, and used the same type of side-valved 4-cylinder as many Ohta cars, a 903 cc producing a meagre 23/24 bhp...

Thanks ! Would love to learn more about Ohta cars, though... Any contribution from a fellow japanese puzzlers would be greatly appreciated, if we have any !

It's a pity, for a website like this...

I'm always surprised to see how difficult it is to know the full history of one's japanese car. I'm writing every month about 'youngtimers' for a french magazine, and every time we're doing something about a Honda or whatever from Japan, it is always a headache, just to have even the overall production figure...

Probably, our lack of japanese puzzlers is related to the language barrier. So frustrating...

I second that! More than once I advertised it would be nice if some Japanese enthusiast would join us, but still no peep from Nippon.

It would help so much to understand Japanese car history. I guess there must be many more of obsure cars waiting for being explored.
