Hmm.. interesting clue. My guess is it's either an early post-war Triumph engine (by then owned by Standard) or based on an Avon.

I'm going for the Avon 9hp chassis.

No connection with Avon..

Not a Triumph engine; stick with Standard for the chassis though..

I really wish I hadn't started this - is it a Standard 9hp chassis ?

A.C. based?

Nothing to do with AC.
This puzzle is currently locked for nicanary (to have one more go now) though!

I'm getting nowhere with this. At the moment I'm doing two jobs, one by day, and one by night, and I don't want to waste people's time.

Best thing is to unlock it, and I'll have another stab when I have time.

If it´s Jaguar or SS based , I believe it´s a repost (but I can´t find it)

It is SS-based, but I'm not sure if that's progress or not!

I mentioned earlier that I might have a (tenuous) lead.  There was an article in a recent issue of a well-known classic car mag about Rowley Kitcher, who was well-known for Rover specials. The article mentioned that in the 50s he modified several SS1 cars, and I wondered, since we were getting nowhere, whether it was one of these ?

I've got all the details stored on my computer at work so will have to check on Monday.
I don't recognise that name though (and it's not an SS1...!)

You inadvertently gave me a lead there. It's a special built on an SS2 chassis, with supercharged engine. It was built by a man whose son was called John (seriously, that's all there is on the site), for competing at speed events in the 30s, including racing at Brooklands.

And that's it. I can find nothing more.

Exactly; that's all there is to it.
Maybe my clue wasn't inadvertant!

Only 2 more to solve and the easy life comes to an end!

Don't remind me. There are loads in the Rookies section at the moment that I can tell you the life story about. I fear that I will miss out.
